Breathe Pakistan 2026: Turning Vulnerability into Resilience

As the Founder of Karak Climate Action, I had the honour to participate in the 2nd Breathe Pakistan International Climate Change Conference held at Serena Hotel, Islamabad.

📍 Key Update: The conference was originally scheduled for 23–24 April 2026 at Serena Hotel. It was postponed due to high-level US-Iran talks at the same venue. Later, it was successfully held at the same venue (Serena Hotel, Islamabad) on 6–7 May 2026.

Hosted by Dawn Media Group, this prestigious two-day event gathered over 90 speakers and more than 2,000 participants from across Pakistan and abroad. The conference focused on climate justice, sustainable transformation, disaster risk reduction, energy transition, public health, and food security.

Hard Reality: Pakistan is ranked as the 5th most climate-vulnerable country in the world, despite contributing less than 1% to global greenhouse gas emissions. This injustice remained the central theme of the conference.

I attended the conference with young volunteers of Karak Climate Action. The discussions were powerful and solution-oriented. Prominent speakers including UN officials and Federal Ministers emphasized the need for real climate finance in the form of grants, not loans.

“Climate change is not a future threat — it is destroying lives and livelihoods today. We need justice, not just sympathy.”

This conference strengthened my belief that youth-led local organizations like Karak Climate Action have a critical role to play. We must raise awareness, build community resilience, and push for stronger government policies at the district level.

The postponement and eventual successful holding at Serena Hotel showed the importance and high demand for such platforms in Pakistan.

Karak Climate Action کے بانی کے طور پر میں Serena Hotel Islamabad میں منعقد ہونے والی Breathe Pakistan کی دوسری بین الاقوامی موسمیاتی تبدیلی کانفرنس میں شرکت کرنے کا موقع ملا۔

📍 اہم اپ ڈیٹ: کانفرنس اصل میں 23-24 اپریل 2026 کو سیرینا ہوٹل میں طے تھی۔ امریکہ اور ایران کے اعلیٰ سطحی مذاکرات کی وجہ سے ملتوی کر دی گئی۔ بعد میں اسی venue (Serena Hotel) پر 6-7 مئی 2026 کو کامیابی سے منعقد ہوئی۔

ڈان میڈیا گروپ کی میزبانی میں 90 سے زائد سپیکرز اور 2000 سے زیادہ شرکا نے شرکت کی۔ کانفرنس میں موسمیاتی انصاف، پائیدار ترقی، آفات سے نمٹنے، اور نوجوانوں کے کردار پر زور دیا گیا۔

پاکستان عالمی اخراج میں صرف 1% حصہ ڈالتا ہے مگر موسمیاتی خطرات میں دنیا میں 5ویں نمبر پر ہے۔ یہ حقیقت کانفرنس کا مرکزی موضوع رہی۔

Karak Climate Action کے نوجوان رضاکاروں کے ساتھ شرکت نے مجھے یقین دلایا کہ مقامی سطح پر کام بہت ضروری ہے۔

"موسمیاتی تبدیلی کوئی مستقبل کی بات نہیں — یہ آج ہماری زندگیاں متاثر کر رہی ہے۔ ہمیں انصاف چاہیے، ہمدردی نہیں۔"
